Pharmaceutical Industry Can Advance New Treatments for Human Diseases in Ohio

CLEVELAND – September 29, 2014 – The Ohio Clinical Trials Collaborative (OCTC) will join 100 companies and organizations presenting at the 14th annual Biotech in Europe Forum for Global Partnering and Investment Sept. 30-Oct. 1 in Basel, Switzerland.

The Biotech in Europe Forum draws together some 600 delegates representing investors, analysts, pharmaceutical licensing executives — along with a diverse mix of companies, including those in early stages, ones just preparing for initial public offering, and late-stage and public companies. The OCTC is a statewide initiative designed to position Ohio as one of the leading states in which to test new medicines and treatment approaches. Launched under the leadership of Gov. John Kasich, the OCTC’s founders are the Clinical and Translational Science Collaborative at Case Western Reserve University, the Center for Clinical and Translational Science at The Ohio State University and the Center for Clinical and Translational Science and Training at the University of Cincinnati.

The OCTC’s presence at the European forum represents an effort to increase awareness and engagement of the Ohio organization’s services. Ideally, OCTC would partner with European pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies to provide a streamlined entry point into the US clinical trials market.

“We hope to build synergy with the European pharmaceutical and biotechnology market and offer cost and time savings in developing their clinical candidates,” says John R. Peterson, PhD, OCTC Global Business Development Director. “The OCTC has developed a robust network of leading medical centers and hospitals within Ohio that facilitate access to and accelerate performance of industry-sponsored clinical trials. The OCTC serves as the central business office to this network, as well as providing industry with access to a human tissues biobank to further medical innovation and clinical trial development.”
